Vantage Point Senior Apartments Groundbreaking Ceremony

August 11, 2014 | By |

A group of over a hundred gathered on the site of the future Vantage Point Senior Apartments for the groundbreaking ceremony on the sunny morning of Friday, August 8th. The long list of politicians and activists who spoke at the event acknowledged the need for affordable housing in South King County, especially for seniors, and highlighted the importance of projects like Vantage Point.

The overall mood was both proud and determined to complete funding the project in a difficult economic landscape. “We look forward to coming back to the grand opening” was repeated by several speakers.

As for the design, Vantage Point Senior Apartments are designed with the needs of seniors and their families in mind. Making the most of a very steeply sloping site for seniors, people with disabilities, and their families, outdoor activity spaces and walking paths are a major draw for the apartments. As the project landscape architect for this new development, Nakano Associates was responsible for carrying forward lessons learned on our numerous past housing authority projects. Every part of the project was crafted to encourage multisensory enjoyment including a destination community garden and aromatherapy plants at key locations. Community gardens specifically designed for seniors will enable a deeper connection with the outdoors and local food production.
