Nakano Associates is working with Sound Transit and the design team on an eastern extension of the Link light rail system. The East Link will connect to the rail system’s Central Link in downtown Seattle and extend the system east to Mercer Island, Bellevue, Overlake, and Redmond with eight stations.
Nakano Associates provided preliminary urban design services that examined the neighborhoods surrounding the stations including looking at pedestrian connections and open space opportunities. We are currently working on the final design for five of the new stations including Mercer Island Station and South Bellevue Station, East Main Station and 130th Station in Bellevue. Each station design adheres to the Sound Transit standards yet also reflects the neighborhood in which it is located. Along the corridors between stations we are developing options for landscaping, landscape mitigation and open space connections.
