Downtown Issaquah Streetscape Plan

The primary street in Downtown Issaquah, Front Street has served the community for over a century. Nakano Associates, in collaboration with Framework Placemaking and KPFF Engineers, worked with the City and its residents to develop a vision and streetscape plan for the next century. The plan focuses on improvements and recommendations that enhance the pedestrian environment and strengthens connections to the many destinations downtown, including the Issaquah Fish Hatchery and the Train Depot Museum. The concept streetscape design highlights Issaquah’s natural and cultural history through selection of materials and patterns that reference Issaquah’s unique character, including its relationship with the surrounding Issaquah Alps. The urban design included widening and standardizing sidewalks along Front Street; safer, better-defined pedestrian crossings; and updated site furnishings. The plan also includes the creation of a festival street on Alder Street, creating a downtown gathering space for special events.
