Working closely with the Everett Department of Parks & Recreation and artist Linda Beaumont, Nakano Associates designed this new arts-centric plaza in downtown Everett. What used to be a parking lot adjacent to the Performing Arts Center is now the multifunctional Wetmore Theatre Plaza.
The focal point of the plaza is a sculptural water feature with an adjacent stage located on the northeast corner. The water feature was the result of a close collaboration between Nakano Associates and artist Linda Beaumont. An amphitheater space at the northwest corner serves as seating for outdoor concerts and other events. Along the west side of the plaza is an organic, curving mosaic wall that screens functional uses at the back of adjacent existing buildings and provides a sense of enclosure. Plantings provide year-round interest and seasonal color. The plaza is permeated with artwork and vegetation, making it a one-of-a-kind public place unique to the City of Everett.
