The new Technology and Science Centers are key elements in Green River Community College’s 10-year master plan. The open space between the two buildings is a focal point of the campus. The Tech Center provides 32,000 gross square feet of state-of-the-art classroom and computer labs and serves as a central resource for information technology programs on campus. The Science Center provides 27,000 gross square feet of classroom and lab facilities.
Nakano Associates worked with the architect and the civil engineering sub-consultants to turn a conventional storm water detention pond into a visual amenity with an artist-designed water feature for the College community to enjoy. Nakano Associates participated in several workshops at the beginning of the project to help identify the needs of the College and potential sustainability measures, and worked closely with their maintenance staff to arrive at a landscape solution that is easily maintained.
